Biography

Nishan specialises in immigration and human rights law and regularly appears before the immigration and asylum tribunal, Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal. He is considered a powerful and compelling advocate. Nishan believes in excellent client care, irrespective of the complexity of a case, and insists on conferences prior to any hearing. He prefers to be instrumental in the preparation of witness statements and bundles as this maintains his excellent appeal success rate.

Experience

Nishan is a hugely experienced and respected specialist immigration barrister. Before coming to the Bar Nishan toured Sri Lanka extensively and spent time working for the Law and Society Trust in Colombo, a not for profit organisation engaged in human rights documentation, legal research and advocacy. He was subsequently employed as a legal assistant to the Overseas Doctors’ Association representing doctors before the General Medical Council and local tribunals.
